When I told him there are 13 million abortions in China each year, he was surprised about the serious abortion problems. The idea that the possible design outcome I thought for this project came from the PPT “concept map & clarifying intent” Matt showed us on the session. The picture that a uterus image at the right part of the underwear is really engaging and aesthetically the style I wanted to use. So I thought it would be interesting to design a T-shirt that could not only provides information about sex-selective abortion, but also communicates with the audience through the typography on it. I would like to use sarcastic words to make a graph in which a female fetus is sucked out a uterus. Most importantly, the graph should be put at the belly part just like the design of the underwear. I suppose conveying information through the combination of words and graphs could easily connect to different audiences, no matter men or women. The sex-selective abortion is a quite sensitive topic, which could give different personal feelings. I want the design make a big impact to provoke the audiences and allow them to think deeply, more than just delivering them information. Moreover, I would like to know their views and how they deal with it.

When I decided to design a sucked baby at the belly part, the initial idea was putting a pink baby in a realistic uterus outline and filling the uterus with words. However, the sketching effect was not satisfied, while the graph strengthened the shaping of uterus, but not baby. Then I tried to take away the uterus, enlarge the outline of baby and use the font change to represent the sucked baby. Meanwhile, I was thinking the words that can satirize the sex-selective abortion. The first one was not forceful, but the second one was more obscure, which can lead people consider internal questions.
